The Walking Club

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown restrictions, all activities have been suspended until further notice. Below are examples of some of the activities on offer pre-COVID.

The walking club was formed by residents in early 2016 and has, so far, completed several low-level walks and a massive sponsored trek in the Lake District that raised over £800 for new gym equipment at Bosco.

The sponsored walk was undertaken on Friday 1st July, 2017, in difficult weather conditions, but our team bravely completed the challenge. Even though some were not experienced mountain walkers, true grit and determination won out.

The walkers set off from Bosco House at 9.30am and reached the car park at Hawes End, Cumbria, just before midday. From the car park the walk began with a gruelling uphill stretch to the peak of Cat Bells – that really got the legs and lungs working! But each chance to stop and grab a breath gave a wonderful opportunity to take in the views as the Lake District opened up beneath them.

From Cat Bells it was on to the peaks of Maiden Moor and High Spy before descending via the slippery – and scary – paths through the remains of the old slate mines. The path then veered off along the side of the mountains, giving fantastic views across Derwent Water, and back to Hawes End. It really was a massive challenge as the whole expedition took 7 ½ hours to complete.

In 2018, the walking club completed several coastal walks and another sponsored trek in the Lake District. We will be planning for next year’s walks once the winter is out of the way and the weather improves. Come and join us!

We hope to get the Waking Club up and running next year.
